Does climate change affect my allergies?

English Transcript

Allergist Manisha Relan, MD: Climate change affects people’s allergies for a multitude of reasons. First of all, the pollen itself starts earlier in the year. Second of all, it lasts longer in duration since the season itself is lasting longer in duration. And third of all, the plant produces more pollen.

All of this results in increased symptomatology, both of the respiratory as well as the skin allergy symptoms. So you’ll see increased asthma exacerbations and you’ll have stronger pollen allergies.
