What is SMART Therapy?

What is SMART Therapy?

English Transcript

Allergist Sarah Spriet, DO: Smart therapy stands for single maintenance and rescue treatment therapy. It’s given via a single combination inhaler that includes an inhaled corticosteroid and a long acting beta 2 agonist that works faster than some of the other long-acting beta agonists.

And so it can be given both as your maintenance dose, typically two puffs inhaled twice daily, as well as rescue puffs, so additional puffs of the same inhaler, so that you don’t have to carry around two different inhalers for your maintenance and your rescue treatment.
