When Should Parents Be Worried About Frequent Ear Infections?

When Should Parents Be Worried About Frequent Ear Infections?

English Transcript

Allergist Vivian Hernandez-Trujillo, MD: We as allergists frequently see little children with frequent ear infections, and the real question is when should we worry as parents or as physicians?

My recommendation is if your child is having infections that are more than four to six ear infections or they require frequent oral antibiotics more than one course to treat an ear infection, or even IV antibiotics to clear that infection, that would be a reason to speak with your physician and have an immune workup to ensure that all the parts of the immune system are functioning the way they should be.
