Will my allergies ever go away completely?

Will my allergies ever go away completely?

Allergist Jennifer Shih, MD: Your allergies never technically fully go away, but a board-certified allergist could help you tamper down some of those symptoms. So there’s different ways to do that.

First, you can do over-the-counter medications or prescription medications, and your allergist can help you figure out which would be the best for you. Also, testing would be involved to see exactly what are you allergic to? And with that, you could get into individualized therapy with allergy shots. Allergy shots will help “get rid” of the allergies, which means they’ll make your symptoms better.

Another way you can treat allergy symptoms is something called sublingual immunotherapy, and this is a pill that will go under your tongue. It is guided also by testing to see which types of things you may be allergic to, and you put it under the tongue and it gives you the medication that way so that it will give you less symptoms for your allergies as well.
